The CGWM Smash Burger With Homemade Sauce

The CGWM Smash Burger With Homemade Sauce

My family love a simple burger that's juicy and bursting with flavour! Whilst this smash burger doesn't require a lot of ingredients, I do recommend quality minced beef. In this recipe, I used 100% Grass Fed, Free Range Pure Tasmanian Cape Grim Minced Beef from Butcher Crowd.

Their meat is ethically raised, antibiotic & hormone free. It's so good that I only season the minced beef with salt and nothing else! My family say these smash burgers are the best burgers in the world and I'm convinced that the Butcher Crowd Cape Grim meat plays a big part in that. Butcher Crowd have created a 15% OFF discount code for all Australians. USE GRILL15 at Checkout when you place an order with them.
NB: I do not receive any financial gain when you use this code.

There are a lot of smash burger recipes around. How's mine different? Three 50g balls of beef are simultaneously smashed together to form a 150g patty!! It's my secret to getting the patties super juicy with a crust you're going to love! Give it a try!

I also make a simple sauce that goes perfectly with these smashingly good burgers. All you need for these burgers is minced beef, burger buns, my sauce and grilled onions. Of course you can add extras but skipping them and just serving hot chips as a side is perfectly ok too! My sauce is easy to make and can really be used with beef or even seafood. I love it with prawns too!

Here's my recipe...

CGWM BBQ Smash Burgers With Homemade Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

500 grams Butcher Crowd Minced Beef (divided into 50g balls)
1 Spanish onion, sliced finely
10 slices of any easy melt cheese (Kraft, American, Colby or Aussie Jack)
Burger buns (buttered prior to lightly toasting on the BBQ)
Salt to season meat

For the burger sauce (makes approx 2 cups):
1/2 cup American yellow mustard
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/2 cup Whole egg mayonnaise
1/2 cup Tomato sauce (ketchup)
1/2 cup finely diced whole pickles

Method
  1. In a bowl, combine the ingredients for the sauce and refrigerate until needed.
  2. Season the minced beef with salt, divide into 50g balls which will give you 10 and set aside.
  3. Preheat and prepare a medium/hot BBQ hotplate.
  4. Add the sliced onions to the preheated hotplate along with a tablespoon of oil or butter. Cook until softened and slightly brown, then remove from the BBQ keeping warm until needed.
  5. Place one ball on the hotplate, drizzle with a teaspoon of oil and SMASH flat. Place a second ball immediately in the center of that patty and smash again. Then place a third ball in the center of the two combined smashed patties and flatten firmly with a metal large spatula. You'll need to work hard and fast! This burger patty gets smashed 3 times in total (150g per patty)! Cook for 2-3 minutes and flip.
  6. Place a slice of cheese on each burger patty, Close the lid of the BBQ and wait 1-2 minutes until the cheese has melted.
  7. Place buttered burger buns on the hotplate (find a spot not being used) and slightly toast and heat through.
  8. To serve: place a tablespoon of sauce onto the bottom half of the bun, along with the beef patty, topped with the cooked onion. Finally an extra tablespoon of sauce before the top of the bun goes on! Enjoy with some hot crunchy chips.
