The Classic 'Come Grill With Me' Burger

I believe burgers should always be easy to make and messy! The kind that requires you to roll up your sleeves and take the biggest bite while the creamy gooey sauce ends up all over your face.

My favourite burger to make is the one with my homemade burger patty, caramelised onion (always Spanish onion), Colby cheese, tomato sauce (ketchup), my homemade copy cat McDonalds sauce and lettuce.... all on my favourite burger bun.

Come Grill With Me Classic Burger Recipe

Serves 4

For this burger I use my Ziegler and Brown Triple Grill (also known as the Ziggy) from Barbeques Galore with the hotplate accessory. The Ziggy is an amazing gas BBQ and I have made the juiciest burger patties using it. This recipe can be cooked using any BBQ.

Ingredients

4 Burger Buns
4 slices of American cheese, Colby or Swiss cheese (any easy melt cheese will do)
Lettuce leaves

BURGER PATTIES
500 grams lean minced (ground) beef
1 diced Spanish onion
3 minced garlic cloves
1 egg
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 tablespoon ground sweet paprika
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon dried mint
2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

BBQ ONIONS
4 large sliced Spanish onions
30 grams salted butter
1 tablespoon of oil
pinch of salt

COPY CAT MCDONALDS INSPIRED SAUCE
1 cup whole egg mayonnaise
1 teaspoon white wine vinegar
1 - 2 tablespoons tablespoons gherkin relish
3 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
pinch of sweet paprika

METHOD

Pre-heat the BBQ to 200c.Hood can be up during cooking if you're using a Ziggy BBQ.

Burger Patties - Combine all ingredients in a bowl until well combined. Then form into 4 patties and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or until ready to grill.

Brush the burgers with olive oil and grill them on the BBQ hotplate for 4 minutes a side or until cooked through. Place 1 slice of cheese on each burger patty in the last minute so it melts.

BBQ Onions - Add the sliced onions, butter, oil and a pinch of salt to the hotplate and grill until softened.

Burger Bun - Brush the inside of the burger bun with a touch of oil and grill on the BBQ grate for a few seconds a side, to slightly toast the bun.

Copy Cat McDonalds Inspired Sauce - Combine all ingredients and store in the fridge until needed.

Compile the burger in the following order - Base of the bun first, lettuce, copy cat sauce, burger patty, melted cheese, caramelised onion, tomato sauce (ketchup) and finally the top of the burger bun.

You can also add more delicious ingredients to this Come Grill With Me burger such as bacon, egg, beetroot and pineapple.

Roll up those sleeves and enjoy!

I would love to see your burger creations on Instagram. Tag me at Come Grill With Me so I can check them out. Love, Irene XO
